Background

Marine biodiversity, an essential component of our planet's ecological health, is under significant threat due to overexploitation and pollution of the oceans and seas. As these critical environments face challenges from climate change, pollution, and habitat destruction, there is an urgent need to empower and train researchers dedicated to defending and protecting these ecosystems. The oceans play a pivotal role in mitigating climate change by moderating temperatures and influencing weather patterns. Consequently, conserving marine biodiversity is not only about preserving ocean life but also about ensuring global food security and combating climate change, a crisis no nation can afford to ignore.

This Research Topic aims to transition focus from mere production to the conservation and sustainable utilization of marine resources. Given the declaration of the 2020-2030 period as the "Decade of Ocean Science for Sustainable Development" by UNESCO, this topic emphasizes the need for strategic actions to protect marine biodiversity while promoting sustainable development goals on a global scale.

The research scope encompasses a broad spectrum of marine biodiversity conservation themes, with particular attention to sustainable practices and innovative solutions. We welcome articles that address, but are not limited to, the following themes:

o Methods for reducing pollution and waste in marine environments
o Impact of climate change on marine ecosystems
o Innovative conservation strategies and techniques
o Policies for sustainable management of marine resources
o Role of international cooperation in marine conservation efforts

We encourage diverse submissions to capture the multifaceted nature of marine biodiversity conservation, including original research articles, reviews, and case studies.
