Background

This Research Topic invites original research, reviews, and perspectives inspired by the inaugural conference on biomolecular condensates, jointly sponsored by Frontiers in Biophysics and Frontiers in Molecular Biosciences. The aim is to capture state-of-the-art discoveries and foster cross-disciplinary dialogue on the mechanisms, functions, and therapeutic potential of biomolecular condensates in health and disease.

We seek contributions that address the biochemical and biophysical principles governing condensate formation, their roles in genome organization, cell signaling, stress responses, neurodegeneration, and cancer, as well as emerging methods to manipulate phase transitions for biomedical innovation. Of particular interest are works exploring RNA-driven phase separation, in vitro and cellular models revealing condensate dynamics, and approaches for condensate-targeted drug discovery.

Submissions covering new technologies, computational insights, engineered condensates, aging and amyloidogenesis, and case studies linking condensate biology to disease are especially welcome.

By bringing together leading voices from biophysics, structural biology, molecular biosciences, and drug discovery, this collection aims to chart the frontiers of biomolecular condensate research and inspire future breakthroughs.
