Although proteins are inherently dynamic, they have typically been depicted as static molecules. Advances in experimental and computational techniques now offer unprecedented capabilities to resolve and predict protein dynamics. In addition to uncovering both general and specific biological functions, these advancements present concurrent challenges: devising methods for the detection, verification, and prediction of dynamic modes, and developing tools that make this growing knowledge base accessible and interpretable.
The aim of this Research Topic is to survey current successes and challenges in resolving protein dynamics, to highlight the biological relevance of unraveling minor states, and to inspire new approaches for capturing and presenting protein dynamics in a clear and accessible format for the wider biological community.
Submissions are invited that utilize computational and/or experimental methodologies to reveal novel aspects of protein dynamics across all scales. Contributions may include original research, reviews, or methodological papers, including proof-of-concept studies. Submissions that introduce innovations in the effective visualization and interpretation of dynamic states are especially encouraged.
