Background

Case report articles in the field of Neuro-Ophthalmology provide valuable insights by documenting unique or rare clinical cases with unexpected diagnoses, treatment outcomes, or clinical courses. These reports enable healthcare professionals to learn from novel presentations and therapeutic approaches, informing future research and practice on rare visual and neurological disorders.

This Research Topic aims to collect all the Case Reports submitted to the Neuro-Ophthalmology section of Frontiers in Neurology since September 2025, and is edited by the section's Specialty Chief Editors, Prof. Valerie Biousse and Nancy Newman.

Only Case Reports that are original and significantly advance the field with a comprehensive and critical review of the existing literature will be considered.

Please make sure your article adheres to the following guidelines before submitting it.
Maximum word count: 3,000
Maximum number of display items (figures, tables, or videos): 4
Authors should follow the CARE guidelines (https://www.care-statement.org/) and submit a completed CARE checklist as a supplementary file (template available here: https://www.care-statement.org/checklist).

Case Report format:
- Title: “Case Report: ‘area of focus’”
- Abstract
- Introduction: including what is unique about the case and medical literature references
- Case description: including de-identified patient information, relevant physical examination and other clinical findings, relevant past interventions and their outcomes
- Diagnostic assessment, details on the therapeutic intervention, follow-up, and outcomes, as specified in the CARE guidelines
- Discussion: strengths and limitations of the approach to the case, discussion of the relevant medical literature (similar and contrasting cases), take-away lessons from the case

Please note that authors are required to obtain written informed consent from the patients (or their legal representatives) for the publication.

IMPORTANT: Any Case Report submitted to the Neuro-Ophthalmology section outside this collection might experience delays, as they will be sent for assessment to the Specialty Chief Editors before beginning the peer review, and transferred to this Research Topic if appropriate.

Articles accepted after peer review will be published and appear online as soon as approved for publication.
