Cardiovascular disease (CVD) continues to be the world’s leading cause of death, presenting a significant challenge to global health systems. Traditional risk assessment tools, while useful for general populations, often lack the accuracy needed to predict and guide care for individual patients. This limitation has driven a shift toward personalized medicine, an approach that seeks to tailor prevention and treatment strategies to each person’s unique genetic, molecular, and lifestyle characteristics.
Advances in technology, including affordable genomic sequencing, multi-omics platforms, artificial intelligence (AI), and big data analytics, are revolutionizing the field. These innovations are unlocking a deeper understanding of CVD at the molecular level and enabling more precise approaches to risk prediction, diagnosis, and therapy.
Despite these developments, many clinical practices still rely on a “one-size-fits-all” model. There is a pressing need for research that helps move cardiovascular care toward individualized, proactive management.
This Research Topic welcomes submissions that explore progress and challenges in the journey toward personalized cardiology. We encourage contributions on: • The development, validation, and clinical utility of polygenic risk scores • Discovery and application of novel multi-omics biomarkers for diagnosis and risk stratification • Pharmacogenomic strategies for optimizing drug therapy (e.g., statins, antiplatelets) • Clinical application of artificial intelligence and machine learning in cardiovascular data interpretation • Emerging technologies such as gene editing (e.g., CRISPR-Cas9), single-cell genomics, and the use of Digital Twin patient models • Implementation science, ethical considerations, and strategies to ensure equitable access to precision medicine
