Background
Renal denervation (RDN) has increasingly gained attention in cardiovascular medicine as a potentially transformative approach for managing resistant hypertension and related disorders. Initial trials raised concerns about RDN's efficacy, but subsequent technological advancements and fresh perspectives in clinical research have reinvigorated this field. Advances in device technology, alongside a better understanding of the autonomic nervous system's role in hypertension, promise to enhance therapeutic outcomes. Current challenges include determining optimal patient profiles and refining procedural techniques, as the field continues to expand its scope and refine its methodologies.
This Research Topic aims to advance our understanding of RDN by bringing together state-of-the-art research, addressing objectives such as delineating the mechanisms of action, and evaluating the long-term clinical impacts across various patient demographics. Key questions remain about predicting patient response, aligning RDN with existing treatment guidelines, and assessing its cost-effectiveness compared to traditional therapies. By addressing these, we aim to unlock the full potential of RDN in clinical practice, offering new hopes for patients with cardiovascular diseases.
To provide comprehensive insights spanning basic, translational, and clinical research boundaries, we welcome articles addressing these and related themes:
o Novel RDN technologies and device innovations
o Mechanistic studies on RDN and its cardiovascular effects
o Criteria for selecting candidates for RDN procedures
o safety, efficacy, and procedural optimizations
o Integrative strategies and comparative analyses with other treatments
We welcome original research articles, comprehensive reviews, meta-analyses, case reports, and expert perspectives. By compiling these works, this Research Topic seeks to foster meaningful collaborations and chart the future of renal denervation in cardiovascular therapy.
