Background

The development of POCT (Point-of-Care Testing) biosensors have been a research hotspot in multiple fields. With the interdisciplinary integration of biology, chemistry, computer science, and other fields, significant progress has been made in POCT biosensors, including gold nanoparticles test strips, electrochemical, and SERS (Surface-Enhanced Raman Scattering) biosensors. These advancements provide powerful tools for the multi-scenario application. The core components of POCT biosensors are often biological molecules such as nucleic acids and antibodies and are coupled to substrates or nanomaterials. This operation enhances the sensitivity and response efficiency of biosensors. However, challenges still exist regarding the stability and accuracy of POCT biosensors under harsh conditions. Therefore, the updated research on POCT biosensors should focus on improving the accuracy and stability of the sensors, as well as developing miniaturized, integrated, portable, and cost-effective POCT devices, to promote the clinical application of instant testing technology from laboratories to home healthcare and remote diagnostics.

This Research Topic aims to present original research and latest advancements on POCT to improve the accuracy, sensitivity, and stability of biosensors, focusing on (novel) nanomaterials and labeling methods, design strategies for biosensors in complex environments, and the integration of (novel) biosensor design strategies with emerging multidisciplinary technologies, with the goal of enhancing their application in multiple scenarios. Submissions are expected to propose existing technological or scientific issues that limit biosensors, and ultimately address challenges regarding how to improve the stability, sensitivity, and biocompatibility of biosensors, which are of significant importance for the robust application of POCT.

In order to further gather insights and strategies on the stability and accuracy of POCT biosensors to enhance their applications and scenarios, we welcome original research article, minireviews, reviews, comments, perspectives, etc., on POCT biosensors, including but not limited to the following topics:
