The field of cardiovascular research has traditionally focused on the left heart's function, particularly in the context of left heart diseases (LHD), leading to significant advancements in understanding and managing these conditions. However, the complexities of right heart disorders, especially in relation to their interaction with the left heart, remain underexplored. Pulmonary hypertension (PH), a primary contributor to right heart disorders, is often linked to various clinical conditions, with LHD being a predominant cause. Despite this, there is a paucity of research on how pulmonary arterial hypertension (PAH) impacts left heart function, leaving a critical gap in our understanding of the interplay between the right and left heart under different pathological conditions. Addressing this gap is crucial, as it could lead to better management strategies for heart failure, where the coupling between the right and left heart plays a significant role. Current studies have begun to explore these interactions, but a comprehensive understanding of the coupling mechanisms and their implications in heart failure is still lacking.
This research topic aims to delve into the intricate interactions between the right and left heart, particularly in the context of cardiovascular diseases. The primary objective is to uncover new insights into how right heart disorders, such as those caused by PH, affect left heart function and vice versa. By investigating these interactions, the research seeks to identify early indicators of right-left heart de-coupling and potential intervention strategies. Key questions include understanding the mechanisms of heart coupling, the impact of severe right heart disorders on left heart function, and the role of ventricular septal changes in heart failure.
