Metabolomics is an emerging field that offers significant potential in understanding cardiovascular diseases (CVDs) by analyzing the imbalance of endogenous metabolites. These imbalances, which manifest in samples such as blood, urine, and tissue, are indicative of myocardial metabolic disorders prevalent in various CVD processes. Current research has shown that metabolomics can provide comprehensive insights into the metabolic changes over time, offering a holistic view of the disease's progression. Recent studies have identified potential biomarkers for early diagnosis and prognosis of CVDs through meticulous screening, qualitative, quantitative, and validation analyses of metabolite levels. Despite these advancements, there remains a critical need to further explore the metabolic disorders in cardiomyocytes, particularly in energy metabolism, glycolysis, and fatty acid metabolism. The identification of therapeutic targets and elucidation of underlying mechanisms are areas that require more focused investigation to enhance the understanding and treatment of CVDs.
This research topic aims to advance the role of metabolomics in the understanding and management of cardiovascular diseases. The primary objectives include exploring potential biomarkers and therapeutic targets, thereby contributing to improved diagnosis and treatment strategies. Key questions to be addressed include the identification of plasma biomarkers for CVD diagnosis, the analysis of biochemical metabolic status through metabolic regulation networks, and the clarification of CVD etiology and mechanisms based on metabolic characteristics.
