Background

Cardiovascular diseases remain the leading cause of mortality worldwide, with nearly 18 million deaths reported in 2019 alone, constituting about a third of all global fatalities. In this context, ultrasound technology stands out as a pivotal tool for early diagnosis and risk stratification of cardiovascular conditions. Recent advances in ultrasound have significantly enhanced its capabilities, providing detailed insights into cardiovascular health that assist in preventive measures and early detection.

This Research Topic aims to dissect the current advancements and findings concerning ultrasound utilization for the prevention, diagnosis, and ongoing management of cardiovascular risk and diseases. The focus is on understanding how ultrasound, specifically through Point-of-Care Ultrasound (POCUS) and echoscopy, can improve real-time monitoring of hemodynamic status, manage acute conditions responsively, and track disease progression effectively in patients.

To gather further insights in cardiovascular ultrasound applications, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

- Innovations in POCUS for cardiovascular risk assessment and management
- Echoscopy techniques in the evaluation of acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions
- Carotid ultrasonography's role in young individuals for risk stratification
- Ultrasound in the management of Peripheral Arterial Disease (PAD) and cardiac diseases
- Comparative studies on ultrasound versus traditional diagnostic approaches
- Review articles summarizing trends in ultrasound applications within cardiovascular medicine
