Background

Allergic diseases are a diverse group of conditions characterized by hypersensitivity reactions to otherwise harmless antigens, such as drugs, environmental, or food allergens. These conditions affect over 25% of the population in industrialized nations, posing significant challenges to public health and healthcare systems. Despite considerable advancements in recent decades, there remain critical gaps in our understanding, particularly concerning the diagnosis, treatment, and management of allergic patients. A deeper comprehension of the specific mechanisms underlying each allergic reaction is crucial for identifying distinct endotypes, which can aid in the discovery of specific biomarkers and potential therapeutic targets. The advent of omic sciences in biomedicine, encompassing proteomics, metabolomics, genomics/epigenomics, and transcriptomics, offers promising avenues for personalized medicine in allergy research. However, translating these basic research findings into clinical practice remains a challenge, necessitating further investigation to bridge this gap.

This research topic aims to explore the significant contributions of omic sciences to the field of allergy, focusing on their role in enhancing our understanding of the mechanisms involved in allergic reactions.
