About this Research Topic

This Research Topic is still accepting articles.

Background

Vestibular testing is a crucial tool in diagnosing patients with dizziness, gait & balance disorders and spatial orientation deficits, impacting conditions like Menière's disease, acute unilateral vestibulopathy, posterior circulation stroke and vestibular migraine, which all significantly affect quality of life. Traditional techniques, such as caloric irrigation, have limitations in sensitivity & specificity and patient comfort. However, breakthroughs in eye, brain and inner-ear imaging and computational analysis are revolutionizing this field. Advances in high-resolution imaging combined with artificial intelligence are enabling precise monitoring of peripheral and central-vestibular function and structure, resulting in earlier and more accurate diagnoses, thereby influencing patient treatment plans and therapeutic outcomes.

This Research Topic aims to explore novel approaches to vestibular testing that utilize the latest technological innovations. The focus is on enhancing diagnostic accuracy and improving patient outcomes in neuro-otology. The objective is to encourage research that pioneers new diagnostic methods, develops fresh imaging protocols, and applies machine learning algorithms to interpret intricate datasets. Through these endeavors, we seek to establish new benchmarks in diagnosing and managing vestibular disorders.

In order to thoroughly explore these advanced methodologies in vestibular testing, we welcome all article types accepted by the journal, and submissions should cover a broad array of topics pertaining but not limited to:

• Developments in AI algorithms aimed at elevating diagnostic accuracy for vestibular conditions.
• New non-invasive methods that prioritize patient comfort and precision.
• Innovative procedures such as video head impulse testing and vestibular evoked myogenic potentials.
• Analyses comparing traditional and new vestibular testing methods to showcase diagnostic improvements.
• Practical applications of new testing methods in clinical scenarios, highlighting both successes and challenges.
• Application in clinical studies and trials
