Background

Cardiovascular imaging continues to play an indispensable role in medical diagnostics, elucidating the structure and function of the heart and blood vessels. However, rare or atypical presentations of cardiovascular diseases often pose significant diagnostic challenges. Recent studies underscore the critical role of sophisticated imaging techniques in accurately diagnosing complex cases, but an understanding of the optimal use of these technologies in such unusual scenarios remains incomplete. Ongoing debates concern the best practices for deploying these technologies across varying clinical situations, emphasizing the need for in-depth study to fill these knowledge gaps.

This Research Topic aims to curate a comprehensive collection of case reports that shed new light on the optimization of cardiovascular imaging. The goal is to compile exemplary instances that feature rare diseases with typical imaging indications, common ailments with unusual imaging findings, or distinct responses to novel or unapproved treatment approaches. These cases are selected to broaden our knowledge of the diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities of cardiovascular imaging technologies.

To enhance our understanding of cardiovascular imaging within unusual clinical settings, we invite contributions that cover a diverse spectrum of topics, including but not limited to:

• Typical imaging features of rare cardiovascular diseases

• Unexpected diagnoses disclosed through advanced, multimodal cardiovascular imaging

• Atypical imaging features of common cardiovascular conditions

• Case reports on the effectiveness of novel or off-label treatment modalities

• Comparative studies of imaging methods in rare clinical contexts

• Longitudinal studies that monitor outcomes following imaging-based diagnoses

• Developments in imaging technology and their implementation in clinical practice

• Ethical issues and patient perspectives regarding cardiovascular imaging

These discussions are aimed at deepening the understanding of the specific complexities and capabilities of cardiovascular imaging in enhancing patient care.
