Background

Metabolic diseases such as diabetes, obesity, and metabolic syndrome pose considerable challenges to global health, primarily due to the dysregulation of glucose and lipid metabolism. These metabolic pathways are deeply interconnected, with disturbances in one frequently causing adverse effects in the other, leading to a complex web of metabolic complications. An in-depth understanding of how glucose and lipid metabolism reciprocally regulate each other is pivotal for crafting therapies that address multiple aspects of metabolic dysfunctions.

The goal of this Research Topic is to advance our understanding of the complex interactions between glucose and lipid homeostasis and their collective impact on metabolic health. We aim to explore the biochemical pathways that govern glucose and lipid metabolism, identify key regulatory mechanisms that contribute to metabolic diseases, and evaluate novel therapeutic interventions. The focus is particularly on how disturbances in glucose and lipid metabolism exacerbate one another and how targeted interventions can mitigate these effects to improve overall metabolic health.

To gather further insights into these complex interactions, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:
o The impact of glucose metabolism, lipid metabolism, and their synergistic effects on metabolism-related diseases
o Novel targets and interventions for treating metabolism-related diseases by regulating glucose or lipid metabolic homeostasis
o The role of oxidative stress and inflammation in metabolic dysfunction
o Technological advancements for studying glucose and lipid metabolism
o The potential role of traditional Chinese medicine or herbal treatments in regulating glucose or lipid homeostasis for the treatment of metabolism-related diseases

This Research Topic is framed to foster a broader understanding of glucose and lipid metabolism's role in health and disease, calling for a multidisciplinary approach to tackle the complexities of metabolic disorders.
