As new and re-emerging pathogens continue to present significant challenges, the development of effective vaccines and molecular therapeutics is more critical than ever. The rise of antimicrobial resistance in bacteria, fungi, and parasites, including those causing malaria, complicates infection treatment and highlights the urgent need for innovative therapeutic strategies. Climate change also contributes to shifts in the distribution of pathogens and their vectors, creating new opportunities for disease spread. These challenges underscore the importance of advanced immunological research in developing vaccines and molecular therapies to combat infectious diseases.
Despite remarkable progress in understanding the immunological mechanisms of infection, including host-pathogen interactions and immune responses, substantial challenges persist. This research collection focuses on the continued need for immunological research to improve the prevention and treatment of infectious diseases. The emphasis will be on advancements in vaccine development, immune modulation, and molecular therapeutics. It will also explore strategies to enhance vaccine efficacy, overcome resistance mechanisms, and promote the adoption of vaccines. Additionally, recent insights into the immunological aspects of microbial and viral infections will be featured, with a focus on how this knowledge can contribute to the development of novel therapeutic approaches.
This Research Topic will center on the critical role of immunology in the development of vaccines and molecular therapeutics. We welcome original research articles, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, mini-reviews, case studies, opinion pieces, perspectives, policy briefs, and impact analyses that cover one or more of the following themes:
--Strategies for developing and improving vaccines and molecular therapeutics for infectious diseases. --Methods to enhance vaccine effectiveness and address resistance mechanisms. --Innovations in immunology that offer potential for novel therapeutic approaches. --Advances in immunological understanding of microbial and viral infections. --Examination of immune responses to emerging pathogens. --Interdisciplinary collaborations to advance vaccine and therapeutic development.
