Background

Neurological disorders represent a significant peril to human life and well-being. Acute neurological conditions, such as cerebrovascular disease and epilepsy, progress at a rapid pace and thereby pose a severe menace to our health. In contrast, neurodegenerative diseases are characterized by their chronic and irreversible nature, which severely impairs cognitive function and diminishes the quality of life. Consequently, it is of utmost importance to conduct in-depth investigations into the emerging risk factors, etiological elements, and potential drug targets related to neurological disorders. A more profound comprehension of these aspects will substantially enhance the precision of preventive and therapeutic approaches and contribute to alleviating the substantial disease burden associated with neurological disorders.

This Research Topic aims to identify and analyze novel risk factors, unravel the pathogenic mechanisms, and pinpoint drug targets for neurological diseases. The goal is to foster advancements in the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of these conditions, ultimately reducing their significant health burden. Research will focus on utilizing large clinical cohorts and genomic data to uncover new risk factors, employing multi-omics technologies combined with genetic evidence to discover biomarkers and potential drug targets, and leveraging model animals to systematically explore pathogenesis. Through such multifaceted inquiries, the Research Topic will extend recent strides in identifying conventional risk factors and overcoming the challenges in translating genetic findings into clinical drug targets.

To gather further insights into neurological disorders, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

- Identification and validation of novel risk factors using large clinical cohorts

- Multifaceted analysis of biomarkers and drug targets via multi-omics and genetic evidence

- Systematic exploration of neurological disease pathogenesis using animal models

- Integration of genetic evidence into the identification and clinical translation of drug targets

- Reviews on the progression of research in identifying novel etiological factors for neurological conditions

We are particularly interested in original treatises and systematic reviews that advance our understanding in these areas.
