Background

The global demand for products of animal origin is constantly increasing, driven by population growth but also by improved living standards worldwide. Since animal feed plays an essential role in animal health and production, it is necessary to adopt feeding strategies to meet this growing demand while ensuring a sustainable balance between productivity, animal health, quality of animal products, and environmental sustainability. This can only be achieved through high-quality scientific research and the timely dissemination of acquired knowledge.

The key to the sustainability of safe and affordable animal food production to meet increased demand is animal nutrition, which affects almost every sector of animal production: animal productivity and reproduction, animal product quality and safety, animal health and welfare, the economic viability of the farm, and environmental protection. Consequently, different feeding strategies are continuously evaluated in the poultry industry to strengthen animal health and welfare, improve egg and meat quality, extend their shelf life, and increase their commercial value. There is great interest in improving the quality of animal products, enhancing animal health and welfare, identifying and evaluating new feed resources, additives, and micronutrients, finding optimal nutritional solutions in the context of climate change, and reducing the impact of animal production on environmental pollution.

This Research Topic aims to explore the impact of various sustainable nutritional strategies on poultry health, performance, and the quality of eggs and meat. The focus is on how different feeding approaches, like precision feed formulations and the use of novel resources, can improve nutritional outcomes and address challenges posed by climate change while minimizing environmental impact.

To gather further insights into these strategic interventions, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

• Nutritional requirements and precision feed formulations for poultry.
• The role of novel feed resources, additives, and micronutrients in enhancing poultry production.
• Strategies to mitigate the effects of heat stress through diet.
• Long-term impacts of sustainable feeding practices on egg and meat quality.
• Economic analyses of sustainable nutritional strategies and their commercial viability.

This Research Topic invites original research and comprehensive reviews that contribute to advancing our understanding of sustainable poultry nutrition.
