Background

Oncogenic proteins are essential for the development and spread of tumors, making cancer a significant worldwide health concern. These proteins promote the survival, growth, and metastasis of cancer cells and are frequently the consequence of genetic abnormalities or dysregulated signaling pathways. Precision oncology has advanced significantly as a result of targeting oncogenic proteins for drug discovery. These include small-molecule inhibitors, monoclonal antibodies, and new modalities including RNA-based therapies and PROTACs (proteolysis-targeting chimeras). Notwithstanding these developments, problems including drug resistance and tumor heterogeneity still exist, calling for creative approaches to boost treatment effectiveness. Novel oncogene targets are being identified more quickly, and patient outcomes are being improved, thanks to recent advances in structural biology, computational drug design, and biomarker-driven methodologies.

This Research Topic dives into the latest breakthroughs in targeting oncogenic proteins, showcasing innovative drug discovery approaches, the challenges of drug resistance, and how these discoveries can translate into real-world cancer treatments. By exploring these advancements, we aim to highlight the potential to transform cancer care and improve patient outcomes. We aim to bring together researchers to share breakthroughs in drug discovery, understand resistance mechanisms, and improve precision medicine. By fostering collaboration, we hope to accelerate the development of more effective, targeted treatments that can enhance patient outcomes. This Research Topic also seeks to bridge the gap between research and clinical application, ensuring that promising discoveries translate into real-world therapies that can make a meaningful impact in the fight against cancer.
