About this Research Topic

Submission deadlines

  1. Manuscript Submission Deadline 1 June 2026

  2. This Research Topic is currently accepting articles.

Background

Movement disorders encompass a broad range of neurological conditions characterized by hypokinetic, hyperkinetic states, or both. The abnormal expression of voluntary movement can be measured in the clinical setting using a variety of tools. There is increasing evidence that these technological advancements can enhance the accuracy of diagnosis and clinical decisions on treatments. Despite considerable progress, challenges remain in achieving early diagnosis, continuous monitoring, and personalized treatment strategies.

This Research Topic aims to provide state-of-art information on emerging technologies and innovative data analysis for movement disorders. It seeks to understand how these new tools can transform the diagnostic landscape, improve patient outcomes, and elevate the precision of treatments. Engaging with the latest in wearable technology, AI, and big data, the research will address both the potential and the limitations of these innovations.

We welcome articles addressing the following themes:
• Wearable technologies and their impact on real-time movement disorder monitoring
• The application of virtual and augmented reality in therapy and assessment
• Uses of machine learning and artificial intelligence in pattern detection and progression prediction
• Advances in signal processing for feature extraction from complex sensor data
• Cross-modal data integration for enhancing diagnostic precision and treatment personalization
• Development of clinical algorithms implementing new technologies and data analysis in the clinical setting
This Research Topic invites original research articles, reviews, and brief communications to contribute to this dynamic and rapidly evolving field.
