Background

The improvement of reproductive capacity is one of the most critical factors affecting economic benefits in the sheep and goat industry. Reproduction is a complex trait affected by many factors, and its mechanism still needs further elucidation. In recent years, with the development of multi omics technologies, such as genomics, transcriptomics, proteomics, and metabolomics, it has become possible to discover many new molecular biomarkers related to the ovulation mechanisms and disorders of reproduction in sheep and goats.

This Research Topic aims to delve deep into various molecular biomarkers including genes, non-coding RNAs, proteins, and metabolites related to ovarian development, follicular development, ovulation mechanisms, litter size and ovulation disorders in sheep and goats. This will lead to providing new insights into the effect of the molecular biomarkers on reproductive phenotype and more efficient reproduction for sheep and goats production.

In this context, one of the purposes of this research topic is to collect some of the latest research on functional research of molecular biomarkers in the ovary and follicular development, ovulation mechanisms and disorders in sheep and goats, as well as highlight the identification of key molecular biomarkers involved in modulating main reproductive events of sheep and goats of economic interest. We hope that this research topic will further stimulate collaboration between scientists engaged in all aspects of reproductive phenotype in livestock.
