About this Research Topic

This Research Topic is closed for submissions.

Background

Translational research is a critical component of progress in veterinary, bridging the gap between biomedical innovation and clinical implementation.

This Research Topic aims to bring together contributions that highlight the role of veterinary clinical practice in driving translational research. By focusing on naturally occurring diseases, therapeutic innovation, and shared pathophysiological mechanisms across species, we seek to explore how clinical veterinary medicine contributes to broader biomedical progress.

Within the Comparative and Clinical Medicine section, this Research Topic seeks to collect contributions that demonstrate how veterinary clinical practice, supported by solid scientific foundations and integrated with advanced technologies, can generate knowledge with direct translational impact on animal health and welfare.

In addition, companion animals, as well as farm animals and equines, spontaneously develop a wide range of diseases with clinical, molecular and pathophysiological aspects comparable to human pathologies. The comparative approach enables the transfer of knowledge and technologies from human to veterinary medicine and contributes concretely to advances for the development and validation of new diagnostic and therapeutic approaches.

We welcome a range of article types, including Original Research, Clinical Trials, Reviews, and Perspective studies.

Suggested topics may include but are not limited to:

Comparative clinical studies: investigations in veterinary species that share similarities with human clinical conditions, contributing to understand mechanisms and find therapeutic solutions

Disease mechanisms: pathophysiological studies of diseases with shared features across species

Veterinary clinical trials: studies with translational significance, including new drug or device testing in animals

Cross-species diagnostics and biomarkers: tools that can be applied in veterinary medicine

Innovative therapies: clinical application of regenerative medicine, gene therapies, biologics, or targeted treatments in animals
