Women scientists and clinicians have played a transformative role in driving innovation, discovery, and clinical excellence in the field of ocular health. From fundamental breakthroughs in visual system development to pioneering treatments for blinding diseases, their contributions continue to shape the future of vision science and patient care. This Research Topic aims to highlight and celebrate the achievements of women researchers who are leading advances in the cellular and developmental biology of the eye, as well as in translational vision science.
We invite submissions from women scientists serving as either first or corresponding authors that explore the molecular, cellular, and developmental mechanisms underlying ocular health and disease. Topics of interest include—but are not limited to—cataract, glaucoma, retinal development and degeneration, stem cell therapies for vision restoration, ocular tissue engineering, corneal regeneration, signaling pathways involved in lens and optic nerve development, and innovations in disease modeling using iPSCs, organoids, or single-cell technologies.
This collection also seeks to promote interdisciplinary and collaborative research that connects fundamental biology with clinical applications. By spotlighting the work of women researchers, this collection aims not only to advance scientific knowledge but also to foster visibility, mentorship, and leadership for women in the field of vision research. Through this platform, we hope to build a diverse and inclusive scientific community committed to improving outcomes in ocular health and restoring sight for patients around the world.
