Background

Frontiers in Genetics is delighted to present the ‘Reviews in Applied Genetic Epidemiology’ article collection.

This Research Topic aims to publish high-quality scholarly review papers on recent progress, challenges, and outstanding questions surrounding the applied genetic epidemiology field.

Recent studies have leveraged advancements in genomics to explore a wide array of genetic determinants, from candidate gene analysis to genome-wide association studies (GWAS) to whole exome and whole genome sequencing studies. These studies have employed sophisticated methodologies that combine traditional genetic epidemiology with statistical genetics, enhancing our understanding of gene-environment and gene-gene interactions. Nevertheless, the need for comprehensive reviews that connect these findings with broader health implications remains a critical gap.

To gather further insights in our understanding of applied genetic epidemiology, we welcome review articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

• Genetic determinants of diverse human phenotypes and health conditions

• Genomic approaches, including single gene and whole genome studies

• Study designs for genetic variant discovery, replication, and translation

• Methodologies combining traditional genetic epidemiology with statistical genetics

• Comprehensive analyses of gene-environment or gene-gene interactions affecting human health

The Reviews in Applied Genetic Epidemiology collection welcomes full-length, mini, or systematic review papers. New articles will be added to this collection as they are published. All other article types (e.g. case report, original research, and methods) are out of scope and will be transferred out of this Research Topic.
