Lymphatic System: Organ Specific Functions in Health and Disease, Volume III

The lymphatic system is essential for maintenance of tissue fluid homeostasis, clearance of macromolecules, and dietary fat absorption as well as immune surveillance. It plays important roles in various pathological processes, including inflammatory disease. Recent advances in lymphatic research have uncovered organ specific differences in the lymphatic vasculature; however, the underlying mechanisms that contribute to the organotypicity of lymphatic formation and function are not fully understood.



The outstanding biological question in the lymphatic field is what are the cellular and molecular mechanisms that govern the formation and regulation of lymphatic vascular heterogeneity in different organs/tissues. Therefore, this Research Topic is designed to center on a theme that integrate scientists from various disciplines to enhance understanding of organ/tissue-specific lymphatic functions in health and disease, thereby bringing new aspects in different areas, including developmental biology, genetics, immunology, physiology, mechanobiology, bioengineering, drug development, pathophysiology, and cancer.

Following the great success of the Research Topic “Lymphatic System: Organ Specific Functions in Health and Disease" the launch of this third volume aims to further improve our understanding organotypicity of lymphatic formation and function. The scope of this Research Topic is to focus on recent and novel advances in lymphatic vascular heterogeneity and organ-specific lymphatic functions in health and disease with an emphasis on cellular and molecular processes. We welcome submissions, falling under, but not limited to, the following areas:



• Lymphatic vessel morphogenesis in different organs

• Organ-specific lymphatic function

• Impaired organ-specific lymphatic function in pathological processes

• Signaling pathways under physiological and pathological conditions

• Cell-cell communication

• Organotypic chemokines and cytokines

• Organ-specific modulation of immune responses

• Lymphatic tissue bioengineering
