Background

Breast cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer among women worldwide and remains a leading cause of cancer-related mortality. Growing evidence highlights the pivotal role of nutrition, metabolic health, and endocrine-related mechanisms in modulating both breast cancer risk and disease progression. Nutritional biomarkers provide valuable insights into dietary exposures, metabolic status, and their association with tumor biology, offering potential tools for early detection, risk stratification, and personalized interventions. Endocrine-related pathways –including estrogen signaling, insulin resistance, and adipokine regulation– represent key mechanistic links between diet, obesity, and breast cancer outcomes. Despite advances in these areas, further investigation is needed to better understand the interplay between dietary factors, molecular mechanisms, and clinical management strategies to advance prevention and treatment.

This Research Topic aims to bring together cutting-edge studies and insights on nutritional biomarkers and endocrine-related mechanisms in breast cancer. The goal is to facilitate a deeper connection between basic scientific research and its clinical applications. This encompasses explorations of how nutritional elements may interact with hormonal pathways and how these interactions can inform prevention and therapeutic strategies for breast cancer.

To gather further insights into the diet–endocrine–cancer axis, we welcome original research, review, and perspective articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:
