This special issue will explore the diverse applications of human organoid technology across research, clinical, and translational domains. With particular emphasis on emerging applications in patient-specific drug treatment, microbiome-host interactions, and immune recognition, this collection aims to showcase how organoid systems are revolutionizing disease modeling, drug development, personalized medicine, and fundamental biological research.
Opportunities
While organoid technology has been started using significantly, many applications remain underexplored or are just emerging.
Key opportunities include:
• Drug Screening: Standardizing organoid-based drug screening and toxicity testing protocols
• Personalized Medicine: Expanding immunopeptidome within organoid models for immune recognition studies
• Microfluidic Platforms: For organoid-immune cell co-cultures and organ-on-chip applications
• Disease Modeling using molecular biology techniques: Protocol to study organoids including CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing, base/prime editing, lentiviral transduction, optogenetics, and multi-omics profiling (transcriptomics, proteomics, metabolomics)
Target Researchers
This special issue will appeal to a broad interdisciplinary researchers including organoid biologists and stem cell researchers, immunologists and cancer researchers, pharmaceutical scientists and drug developers, clinical researchers in oncology and infectious diseases, proteomics and mass spectrometry scientists, systems biologists and computational researchers, regenerative medicine specialists, bioengineers developing advanced culture systems, and translational researchers bridging basic science and clinical applications.
