Immunology of Skin Health and Disease

The skin is a dynamic immune organ where resident structural, stromal, and immune cells interact continuously to maintain tissue integrity and defend against environmental challenges. This balance enables effective responses to injury, infection, and stress while preventing excessive inflammation, autoimmunity, or tissue damage. Disruption of homeostasis can drive a wide spectrum of conditions, including chronic inflammation, autoimmune disorders, infections, and cancer. Understanding the cellular and molecular interactions that regulate these responses is essential for uncovering mechanisms that preserve skin health and for identifying therapeutic opportunities.

This Research Topic aims to gather studies exploring how local immune networks are established, maintained, and dysregulated in the skin. We welcome contributions examining the interplay between immune and non-immune resident cells, the regulation of inflammatory responses, and the pathways that govern immune homeostasis. By integrating basic, translational, and clinical research, the collection seeks to highlight mechanisms driving both health and disease and their relevance for therapy development.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to:
- Cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying cutaneous immune regulation
- Dysregulation of skin immunity in inflammatory, autoimmune, infectious, and neoplastic conditions
- Crosstalk between structural, stromal, and immune cells
- Translational insights or therapeutic strategies targeting skin immune pathways.

We invite the following article types: Original Research, Review, Mini Review, Case Report, and Brief Research Report that combine mechanistic insight with clinical relevance.

By showcasing innovative findings and approaches, this collection will advance understanding of skin immunology and support the development of strategies to restore immune balance and promote skin health.
