About this Research Topic

This Research Topic is closed for submissions.

Background

Even before the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic, antibiotic resistance was one of the top priorities in the medical and healthcare community. Currently, due to the unselective use of antibiotics in the SARS-CoV-2 landscape, new drug-resistant strains are expected to develop which can be a threat to mankind. In this regard, there is a need to study how SARS-CoV-2 has changed the dynamics of anti-microbial resistance (AMR) globally and how changes due to SARS-CoV-2 can affect the transmission and control of Multi drug resistance (MDR) pathogens.

This Research Topic aims to study the global molecular impact of SARS-CoV-2 on AMR, by integrating and presenting the most up-to-date knowledge in the field of antibiotic resistance from the point of diagnosis, to pathology and therapeutics. This Research topic will highlight the mechanism of bacterial infection and pathogenesis, along with the molecular mechanisms associated with the development of AMR in MDR pathogens. We will focus on the development of treatment and control strategies available to cure MDR infections. Along with this, we will also find out the impact of unselective antibiotic usage on human health at the molecular level.

Potential topics include but are not limited to the following:

• Impact of COVID 19 outbreak on antibiotic resistance: Molecular basis of extensive disinfectant usage

• State-of-the-art techniques for the diagnosis of MDR infections.

• Pathogenesis and evolution of infection control of MDR Pathogens

• Mechanistic perspectives of Host-Pathogen interaction

• Structure-aided drug development for control of MDR infections

• Technology development for detection of microbial infections.

Keywords: SARS-CoV-2, COVID 19, Antibiotics, Resistance, Structure, Infections, Pathogens

Important note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
