Analysing of Player's Perceptions on Game Aesthetics

Game aesthetics is a crucial multi-faceted concept in studying player experience within the game industry. However, research on game players lacks empirical studies investigating their perceptions of game aesthetics. To address the gap, this research employed the framework of the Mechanics, Dynamics, and Aesthetics (MDA) approach with eight dimensions to test game players' perceptions of game aesthetics. A survey was conducted, gathering responses from 462 respondents with basic ARPG (Action Role-Playing Game) experience. The results showed significant differences among the eight dimensions of game aesthetics, while also showing a high degree of correlation among them. ARPG Players with different educational backgrounds, game experiences, monthly game expenditures and playtime exhibited differences in their perceptions of game aesthetics. Players' perception of game aesthetics can influence their acceptance of games which in turn affects their willingness to purchase or recommend the game to others.
