A 2.5-year-old male neutered Golden Retriever was referred to an academic teaching hospital in respiratory distress. The patient was intubated, and diagnostics were pursued which found prolonged clotting times and imaging found evidence of hemorrhage within his trachea as well as lungs. The owner noted the possibility of anticoagulant rodenticide exposure. Due to both upper and lower airway compromise, the patient was mechanically ventilated for over 24 hours while traditional treatment was initiated. The patient was able to breathe on his own after 24 hours and was discharged home four days later. This report documents a dog who required mechanical ventilation as a result of suspected intramural tracheal membranous hemorrhage and atypical presentation of upper and lower airway hemorrhage secondary to vitamin K antagonist rodenticide.
