Integrated inflammology in endodontics is a burgeoning field that seeks to unravel the complexities of inflammatory processes within dental tissues. Inflammation, while a critical host defense mechanism, is also implicated in various pathological conditions, including pulpitis and periapical periodontitis. Despite significant advancements, the comprehensive understanding of the biological mechanisms underlying these endodontic inflammations remains incomplete. Current research has highlighted the intricate interplay between local endodontic inflammation and systemic inflammatory conditions, yet many questions remain unanswered. The process of inflammation is multifaceted, involving numerous factors such as anatomy, physiology, microbiology, immunology, neurology, bone biology, hypoxia, and metabolism. Although substantial progress has been made within each of these individual disciplines, a holistic integration is essential to fully elucidate the mechanisms of inflammation in endodontics. This research topic aims to bridge these gaps and foster a multidisciplinary approach to advance our understanding and treatment of endodontic inflammations.
This research topic aims to provide a platform for intellectual exchange and the accumulation of research outcomes in the field of inflammology within endodontics. The primary objectives include elucidating the mechanisms of endodontic inflammations, exploring the interrelationship between local and systemic inflammatory conditions, and integrating various research disciplines to achieve a comprehensive understanding. Specific questions to be addressed include: What are the underlying biological mechanisms of pulpitis and periapical periodontitis? How do systemic inflammatory conditions influence endodontic inflammations? What innovative experimental models and approaches can be developed to study these processes?
