Background

We are now entering the third decade of the 21st Century, and, especially in the last years, the achievements made by scientists have been exceptional, leading to significant advancements in the fast-growing field of Neuroscience. Frontiers has organized a series of Research Topics to highlight the latest advancements in science to be at the forefront of science in different research fields. This editorial initiative of particular relevance, led by Professor Michela Chiappalone, Specialty Chief Editor of the Neuroprosthetics section, together with Professor Kansaku, Prof Yoo and Dr Kamavuako, is focused on new insights, novel developments, current challenges, latest discoveries, recent advances and future perspectives in the field of Neuroprosthetics.

The Research Topic aims to gather forward-looking and cutting-edge contributions from various perspectives. We welcome original research articles, brief reports, reviews, and perspective articles that highlight recent developments and significant achievements, as well as the future advancements required to advance the field of Neuroprosthetics. We encourage authors to pinpoint the most significant challenges within sub-disciplines and propose effective solutions.
Specifically, contributions that delve into exciting areas such as neurostimulation strategies for electroceutical-based therapies, adaptive systems, novel Brain-Machine/Brain-Computer/Brain-Body Interfaces paradigms, coding and decoding strategies, as well as the exploitation of Artificial Intelligence in Neuroprosthetics are more than welcome in the new edition of This Research Topic.

The primary objective of this special edition Research Topic is to provide insight into the progress achieved over the past decade within the fields of neuroscience and technology and to outline their forthcoming challenges. By doing so, we aim to present a comprehensive snapshot of the current state of the art in Neuroprosthetics. This collection of articles is designed to motivate, educate, and offer valuable direction and guidance to researchers within this dynamic field.
