Epilepsy in Veterinary Science - Volume II

The field of veterinary science has been grappling with the challenge of epilepsy, a condition that affects not only approximately 65 million people worldwide but also a significant number of animal species. Epilepsy is the most common chronic neurologic disease in dogs and cats, mirroring its prevalence in humans. The lifelong manifestation of epileptic seizures imposes a substantial emotional and financial burden on caretakers, underscoring the urgent need for a more comprehensive understanding of the disease and more effective therapeutic strategies. Despite ongoing research efforts, there remain significant gaps in our knowledge about the disease, its causes, and its treatment in animals.

The primary aim of this research topic is to delve deeper into the various aspects of epilepsy in animals. We are particularly interested in exploring the clinical manifestations of the disease, behavioral comorbidities, novel treatment approaches, and the role of electroencephalography and neuroimaging in diagnosis and treatment. We also aim to investigate the pathophysiology and genetics of epilepsy in animals, with the ultimate goal of improving our understanding of the disease and developing more effective therapies.

In order to gain further insights into the complex nature of epilepsy in animals, we welcome articles that address a range of themes. These include, but are not limited to:

- Clinical manifestations of epilepsy in different animal species
- Behavioral comorbidities associated with epilepsy in animals
- Novel treatment approaches for managing epilepsy in animals
- The use of electroencephalography and neuroimaging in the diagnosis and treatment of epilepsy in animals
- The pathophysiology and genetics of epilepsy in animals.

We encourage the submission of original research articles, but also welcome reviews, opinion articles, and case reports.
