Background

Given the success of Research Topic Exercise, Diet, Cytokines and Obesity and the rapidly evolving subject area, we are pleased to announce the launch of Volume II.

The field of obesity research is increasingly critical as the prevalence of obesity continues to rise globally, posing significant clinical and public health challenges. Obesity, characterized by excessive fat accumulation, is a complex disease that may amplify the likelihood of various health issues, including metabolic and cardiovascular diseases, cognitive dysfunction, and certain cancers. Exercise is recognized as a modifiable lifestyle factor that can potentially prevent or treat obesity, yet the specific types of exercise that are most effective remain unclear. Current research is focused on identifying the optimal exercise mode, intensity, and frequency, as well as understanding the mechanisms underlying these effects. Additionally, while diet is a crucial factor influencing obesity, the combined effects of exercise and dietary strategies are not fully understood. Recent studies have highlighted the role of exercise-induced cytokines, such as irisin, IL-6, and ANGPTL4, in modulating adipose tissue metabolism, but further exploration is needed to elucidate their roles and mechanisms in obesity treatment and prevention.

This Research Topic aims to deepen the understanding of the interplay between exercise, diet, cytokines, and obesity. It seeks to address specific questions regarding the optimal exercise and dietary interventions for obesity prevention and treatment, and to explore the roles and mechanisms of exercise-induced cytokines in regulating adipose tissue metabolism. By investigating these areas, the research aims to advance both theoretical knowledge and practical applications in the field of obesity management.

To gather further insights in the complex interactions between exercise, diet, cytokines, and obesity, we welcome Original Research and Review articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:
- The potential mechanisms behind the benefits of exercise or dietary intervention on preventing and treating obesity
- The combined effects of exercise and dietary interventions on preventing and treating obesity and the underlying mechanisms
- The roles of exercise-induced cytokines in regulating adipose tissue metabolism and underlying mechanisms.

Keywords: Exercise, Diet, Obesity, Cytokines

Important note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
