Innovation constantly changes the practice of dentistry. Newly emerging technologies, materials, and approaches can enhance dental care – sometimes in unexpected ways.
This Research Topic aims to demonstrate evidence-based with the use of teledentistry, artificial intelligence, and emerging technology in dental care. We invite original research, reviews, and practice-focused case reports that will improve pediatric oral health and improve access to care for vulnerable populations. We encourage submissions that describe cutting-edge ideas that can push forward the field of pediatric dentistry, special care dentistry and community dentistry. Disruption can also lead to progress in how we treat and prevent oral diseases.
Utilizing telehealth and technology, such as teledentistry, can connect healthcare providers with patients to facilitate dental care for vulnerable populations. Exploring models from e-consultations to virtual dental homes can help improve population oral health. Artificial intelligence can be used in patient care and research analysis. AI can enhance dental care by helping with diagnosis, treatment planning, and treatment workflow. AI can also be used in data analysis, such as big data. Emerging technologies could include mobile health, remote patient monitoring, smart applications, and other provider-centered or patient-centered technology.
Submissions are welcomed from, but not limited to, the following themes:
Teledentistry for vulnerable populations:
- Access to care in underserved areas
- Oral health education for children and caregivers
- Engagement of patients and caregivers through digital platforms
Artificial intelligence in dentistry:
- AI-driven diagnostics and treatment planning
- Personalized dental care programs
- Development of AI-based educational tools
Combined approaches:
- Hybrid models integrating teledentistry and AI
- Research and development of new technologies for dental care
Challenges and ethical considerations:
- Data security and privacy in Pediatric Dentistry and Special Needs Dentistry
- Clinical validation and ethical implications of AI use
Sharing developments in teledentistry, artificial intelligence, and other technologies will allow clinicians, researchers, and patients to revolutionize how dentistry is practiced worldwide. Join us in this project to innovate and disrupt dentistry to ensure oral health for children and vulnerable populations.
Keywords:
