Emerging and re-emerging viral infections pose a constant threat to animals. In recent years there is sudden increase in the number of emerging and re-emerging infectious diseases of livestock. The multifaceted connection among host populations and other environmental factors creates circumstances for the emergence of diseases. The emergence and re-emergence of animal viral diseases are prejudiced by a numerous virus and environmental factors. These factors include changes in the climate condition, life cycle of vector population, extensive deforestation, direct contact of livestock with wild animals and increase in global movement.
Emerging diseases in economic animals like cattle, sheep, goats’, chickens, ducks, pigs, and others have resulted in significant financial losses. Furthermore, the emergence of new animal viral disease also poses threat to public health worldwide. Emerging and re-emerging diseases viruses viz., African swine fever virus (ASFV), swine influenza virus (SIV), porcine reproductive and respiratory syndrome virus (PRRSV), bluetongue virus (BTV), lumpy skin disease virus (LSDV), and H5N8 avian influenza cause diseases of economic importance in livestock and poultry, while others such as Torque teno sus virus (TTSuV), porcine toroviruses (PtoV), porcine bocavirus (PBoV) and Schmallenberg virus (SBV) are often subclinical. Various emerging viruses, such as porcine hepatitis E virus (swine HEV), porcine endogenous retrovirus (PERV), Hendra virus (HeV), Nipah virus, Bungowannah virus, Menangle virus and porcine sapovirus (porcine SaV), not only cause disease in animals but are of zoonotic importance.
In this Research Topic, all original research articles, short communications, reviews related to emerging and re-emerging viruses of animal are welcomed. The manuscript can be focused on, but not limited to:

• Novel advance diagnostic methods and control strategies for viruses
• Animal models for emerging and re-emerging viruses
