The 42nd Annual Meeting of the Australasian Neuroscience Society (ANS) was held in Perth, Western Australia between December 2nd-4th 2024. To highlight this event, Frontiers in Neurology and Frontiers in Neuroscience are collaborating with the ANS to spotlight important themes from the conference in two Research Topics: 'New Insights in Neuroimaging' in Frontiers in Neurology, and 'New Insights in Neurodegeneration' in Frontiers in Neuroscience.
Advances in imaging technologies now allow us to visualise and understand the brain in unparalleled detail, providing new insight into brain structure and function in health and disease. A deep divide has previously existed between the innovations implemented in the research sphere and the practical possibilities in the clinic, however reduced imaging times, simplified image processing and integration of artificial intelligence have facilitated the translation of several advanced techniques into clinical practice.
This Research Topic aims to spotlight the latest developments in neuroimaging that bridge the gap between research advancements and clinical applications; showcasing techniques that have been or could be feasibly translated into clinical practice to provide meaningful context to diagnosis, prognosis and clinical decision-making. By bringing together the latest research in cutting-edge neuroimaging advances across disciplines, this Research Topic also aims to facilitate knowledge sharing and exchange ideas across fields to further the clinical utilisation of neuroimaging.
To gather further insights into the clinical applications of neuroimaging, we welcome contributions addressing (but not limited to) the following themes: • Neuroimaging applications for diagnosis, prognosis and management of neurodegeneration, injury, stroke; • Advances integrating artificial intelligence and machine learning approaches in neuroimaging; • Novel and emerging imaging techniques applied to understand brain structure and function in health and disease.
