Background

Adenomyosis involves the unusual presence of ectopic endometrial glands within the myometrium, contributing significantly to reproductive difficulties such as infertility. This condition is often overlooked in clinical practice despite its correlation with decreased live birth rates and increased miscarriages following assisted reproductive technologies (ART). Furthermore, the presence of adenomyosis could exacerbate pregnancy complications, including preeclampsia, pre-term birth, and fetal malpresentation, ultimately affecting neonatal health by resulting in small-for-gestational-age newborns.

This Research Topic aims to elucidate the complex mechanisms by which adenomyosis contributes to infertility. The focus is on how local endometrial inflammation and the associated cytokine and prostaglandin production may alter uterine peristalsis and contractility patterns, affecting fertility. It seeks to address the underdiagnosis of adenomyosis owing to diagnostic challenges and the absence of standardized screening methods, alongside evaluating both medical and surgical treatment options for women desiring pregnancy, thereby intends to improve management strategies and ART outcomes in adenomyotic patients.

To gather further insights into the challenges and advancements in managing adenomyosis-related infertility, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:
- Pathophysiology of adenomyosis and infertility
- Advances in diagnostic technologies for adenomyosis
- Impact of adenomyosis on ART techniques and pregnancy outcomes
- Review articles on management strategies and long-term reproductive outcomes in adenomyotic patients.
