The era of RNA research has recently become the subject of prominent attention as several scientists from RNA research field have received the Nobel Prizes in Physiology and Medicine in 2023 and 2024. The speed of the development and the success of mRNA vaccines during COVID-19 significantly demonstrate the efficacy of RNA-based approaches and highlight the tremendous potential of RNA therapeutics.
RNAs are structurally diverse and functionally specific molecules with significant potential for diagnostic and therapeutic use. RNA molecules can function as a code for protein synthesis, suppress protein expression, and can have catalytic activity as enzymes. These RNA characteristics are the foundation for development of many FDA approved RNA-based drugs like Inclisiran.
This Research Topic aims to explore the use of RNA molecules in the diagnosis and treatment of cardiometabolic diseases, highlighting their potential as both diagnostics and therapeutics. It will focus on emerging technologies that enhance RNA functionality, stability, and localization, which are crucial for their clinical applications.
To further our exploration of RNA in cardiometabolic diseases, we welcome contributions focusing on the following refined themes:
•Investigative studies on the use of various RNA molecules as diagnostic and therapeutic tools in cardiometabolic diseases. •Meta-analysis and the application of AI for RNA-seq data and network medicine approaches to identify disease-associated pathways. •Advances in RNA synthesis, design, and structural modifications to improve diagnostic and therapeutic outcomes.
