Bone metabolism is a critical biological process involving bone formation and resorption, regulated by osteoblasts and osteoclasts. In conditions like osteoporosis and bone cancers, disrupted activity of these cells results in reduced bone mass, impaired structural integrity, and heightened fracture risks. Current treatment options primarily include anti-resorptive drugs, which, despite their benefits, often come with significant side effects, limited therapeutic ranges, and issues with long-term effectiveness. This has led to a continuous search for more efficient and long-lasting treatment solutions.
This Research Topic aims to delve into the mechanisms, effectiveness, and safety of both current and emerging drug therapies targeting disorders of bone metabolism. It seeks to assess these treatments' roles in diagnosing and managing osteoporosis, bone tumors, and other related conditions, as well as exploring the epigenetic factors that influence drug outcomes. The goal is to enhance the scientific understanding and practical application of these pharmacological approaches through detailed reviews and rigorous preclinical studies.
To gather further insights into the advancement of pharmacological therapies for bone metabolic diseases, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:
Pharmacological mechanisms of drugs for age-related or hormone-related osteoporosis
Application of drug-loaded nanocomposites in treatment of bone defects
Combined physical or chemical stimulations with drugs for treating abnormal bone resorption
Immune and RNA regulatory mechanisms in anabolic drug applications for bone diseases
Drug efficacy in treating bone damage from bone tumors
Pharmacokinetics of drugs targeting osteoporosis
Mechanisms of resistance to drugs in bone resorption disorders
Effects of anti-osteoporotic drugs on cell proliferation, differentiation, and apoptosis
Monitoring and management of side effects related to osteoporosis drugs
Innovative therapeutic approaches for spinal degenerative disease surgical risks
