About this Research Topic

Submission deadlines

  1. Manuscript Extension Submission Deadline 30 June 2026

Background

Genitourinary (GU) cancers encompass prostate, bladder, kidney, and testicular cancers, significantly impacting global health. While traditional treatments like surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy are foundational, the landscape of GU cancer treatment is being revolutionized by targeted therapies. Notable advancements include the use of FGFR inhibitors in bladder cancer due to aberrant FGFR3 signaling, PARP inhibitors for BRCA-mutated prostate cancers, and belzutifan targeting the HIF-2α pathway in kidney cancer. These innovations underscore a shift towards precision medicine, propelled by an evolving understanding of molecular pathways driving these cancers.

This Research Topic aims to explore innovative therapeutics and novel mechanisms in GU cancers. The goal of this collection is to enhance the understanding of molecular signaling pathways and address the challenges of drug resistance in GU cancers. Through this endeavor, the Research Topic seeks to establish a comprehensive resource for the latest developments in GU cancer biology, promoting translational research that bridges experimental findings with clinical applications.

We are particularly interested in original research articles discussing novel approaches, mechanisms, or therapies in GU cancer. Review articles are not preferred for this collection.

To gather further insights into therapeutic advancements in GU cancers, we invite submissions that span a broad spectrum of research. We are especially interested in:

- Novel targeted therapies
- Mechanisms of drug resistance
- Immunotherapy strategies
- Multi-omic analytical approaches
- Mechanistic studies of key signaling pathways
- Translational research that integrates laboratory findings with patient care

These themes are intended to foster a deeper understanding of GU cancer progression and to highlight emergent strategies that could notably improve patient outcomes.
