Background

Cardio-oncology represents an evolving interdisciplinary field dedicated to understanding and managing cardiovascular complications associated with cancer and its therapy. As cancer treatment modalities continue to progress, practitioners often face unforeseen clinical challenges and unusual patient presentations, requiring specialized understanding informed by practical clinical experiences. Recent advancements in both oncology and cardiology have generated distinctive cases highlighting unique scenarios, such as rare complications, atypical clinical manifestations, or unexpected therapeutic responses. Published case reports serve as critical knowledge repositories, providing insights into novel clinical patterns and facilitating improvements in patient outcomes. Although the available literature continues growing, systematic profiling of atypical cases and novel interventions remains inadequate, underlining the urgent necessity to document and analyze detailed, clinically insightful case reports rigorously.

This Research Topic aims to create a comprehensive repository of well-documented case reports that present rare and atypical clinical phenomena within the realm of cardio-oncology, as well as successful implementations of innovative therapeutic approaches. Specifically, it seeks to address critical questions regarding the recognition, management, and outcomes of uncommon cardio-oncological conditions, unexpected treatment-related cardiac events, and positive responses to novel therapeutic strategies. Documenting, analyzing, and disseminating these detailed clinical experiences will contribute substantially to the knowledge base, allowing clinicians and researchers to better anticipate challenges, devise effective management protocols, and ultimately improve patient care.

To ensure relevancy and clarity, this Research Topic will exclusively focus on individual or small case series reports addressing specific and defined clinical scenarios within cardio-oncology, carefully curated to ensure originality and practical significance. We welcome manuscripts highlighting, but not limited to, the following key themes:

• Rare cardiac complications of cancer therapy exhibiting typical clinical characteristics.

• Common cardio-oncology presentations displaying atypical clinical features.

• Exceptional therapeutic responses to novel pharmacologic and interventional approaches.

• Unique or unforeseen interactions between cardiovascular medications and oncology treatments.

• Documentation and evidence-based analysis of novel diagnostic methodologies or imaging techniques in cardio-oncology management.

Appendix: Article Format and Submission Requirements

• Articles must adhere to a structured format including specific content sections and a maximum word limit.

• Written informed consent is mandatory for publication.

Only original case reports that significantly advance the field of cardio-oncology will be considered for review.

Keywords: case reports, cardio-oncology

Important note: All contributions to this Research Topic must be within the scope of the section and journal to which they are submitted, as defined in their mission statements. Frontiers reserves the right to guide an out-of-scope manuscript to a more suitable section or journal at any stage of peer review.
