Background

Cardiac disease in companion animals represents a critical and life-threatening condition. As veterinary capabilities advance, the scope for managing heart disease in animals has dramatically broadened, providing improved pathways for maintenance and quality of life. Current research shows that advancements in diagnostic tools and therapeutic techniques have significantly extended survival times and enhanced the wellbeing of affected animals. However, knowledge gaps remain, particularly in optimally tailoring these innovations to various breeds and conditions, and in catering to more intricate aspects of cardiac health across species. Consequently, the scope for research continuously expands as new debates and theories emerge regarding best practices and future applications.

This Research Topic aims to present and explore the latest diagnostic techniques and therapeutic strategies to improve outcomes for companion animals suffering from cardiac disease. It endeavors to answer questions related to effective disease management, more accurate diagnosis, and enhanced treatment protocols. Additionally, it seeks to examine hypotheses around novel diagnostic tools and their impact on extending the lifespan and improving the quality of life for companion animals with heart disease.

To gather further insights in the management and maintenance of cardiac health in companion animals, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

• Innovations in echocardiography and electrocardiography techniques
• Improved radiography and imaging methods for diagnosis
• Breakthroughs in cardiac biomarkers for disease detection
• Advancements in computed tomography and magnetic resonance imaging
• Development and validation of novel cardiovascular diagnostic tools.

We invite submissions of a wide range of research papers and case studies focusing on these aspects to contribute to the evolving field of veterinary cardiac care.
