Background

Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE) is a heterogeneous multifactorial autoimmune disease with inherent challenges in diagnosis and treatment. The integration of multi-omics technologies, such as genomics, proteomics, and metabolomics, provides a promising approach for uncovering novel biomarkers that could revolutionize our understanding and management of SLE. Despite advances, there remain significant gaps in identifying precise biomarkers due to the complexity of SLE pathogenesis.

This research topic aims to highlight the potential of integrative multi-omics data analysis to discover and validate biomarkers for SLE. By merging different omics datasets, we hope to achieve a comprehensive understanding of the disease at various biological levels, leading to improved diagnosis, targeted therapies, and management of SLE.

The scope of the collection topic includes articles addressing the following themes:

• Defining distinct SLE subtypes based on integrated molecular markers for more precise classification and management.

• Exploration of molecular mechanisms and their roles in SLE pathogenesis.

• Improving monitoring of disease progression

• Understanding the molecular factors that influence how a patient responds to a specific treatment

• Validation of biomarkers in clinical settings and diverse populations.

• Impact of discovered biomarkers on personalized medicine and targeted therapies for SLE.

• Exploration of the role of environmental triggers

By focusing on these themes, this research topic seeks to advance our understanding of SLE and contribute to the development of more precise diagnostic and therapeutic strategies.
