Background

The field of biofabrication in dentistry is on the cusp of revolutionizing dental care by introducing advanced technologies for tissue regeneration, implantology, and craniofacial reconstruction. As the demand for personalized and regenerative dental treatments increases, the integration of these technologies becomes increasingly significant. Despite immense potentials, the research area encounters challenges such as achieving precision and reproducibility, alongside navigating the regulatory landscapes for clinical use. Meanwhile, recent studies have demonstrated promising results in developing biomimetic scaffolds and regenerative materials that closely replicate the natural environment of dental tissues, enhancing treatment effectiveness and patient outcomes.

This Research Topic aims to propel the integration of biofabrication into dental practice by highlighting novel research and critical reviews. The goal is to explore and address the technological advancements, pinpoint existing challenges, and map out the opportunities that these technologies present in improving dental healthcare. Specifically, it focuses on understanding the dynamics of scaffold design, the development of regenerative materials, and evaluating their clinical applications and feasibility.

To gather further insights in this rapidly advancing field, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

• Emerging technologies in 3D bioprinting and electrospinning for dental applications.
• Innovations in scaffold design to emulate natural dental tissue properties.
• Development and optimization of new regenerative materials like hydrogels, ceramics, and biopolymers.
• Evaluation of biocompatibility and biodegradability in dental regenerative materials.
• Clinical integration and case studies showcasing the real-world application of biofabrication in dentistry.

We invite submissions of original research articles, comprehensive reviews, short communications, and case studies that enrich our understanding and application of biofabrication technologies in the dental field.
