Poorly cohesive gastric cancer, including diffuse-type gastric carcinoma, signet-ring cell carcinoma, and linitis plastica, presents significant clinical challenges due to its aggressive biology, diffuse infiltration patterns, and generally poor prognosis. Its often subtle pathological features complicate early detection, accurate diagnosis, and effective patient stratification. To improve clinical outcomes, innovative pathological methods aimed at better detection, characterization, and prognostication of this gastric cancer subtype are urgently needed.
This Research Topic specifically addresses innovative pathological approaches tailored for poorly cohesive gastric cancer. Our goal is to investigate novel histopathological methodologies, advanced biomarker identification techniques, molecular diagnostics, and integrative pathology methods that improve diagnosis, prognostic evaluation, and personalized treatment strategies in clinical practice. Recognizing the diverse healthcare settings across Europe, we also aim to explore how new pathological technologies and protocols can be effectively adopted and standardized within different European contexts.
We welcome submissions, including original research, review articles, and clinical case studies that address, but are not limited to, the following themes within poorly cohesive gastric cancer: • Novel histopathological techniques for improved diagnosis and staging. • Development and validation of molecular and genetic biomarkers. • Innovative applications of digital pathology, artificial intelligence, and computational analysis in clinical practice. • Comparative analyses of diagnostic accuracy and prognostic value of different pathological methodologies. • The role of pathology in guiding personalized therapeutic decisions. • Clinical challenges and practical barriers in implementing novel pathological approaches. • Case studies demonstrating successful pathological approaches and improved clinical outcomes.
Contributions that discuss the harmonization and integration of emerging pathological techniques into clinical protocols within Europe are particularly welcomed. We encourage multidisciplinary perspectives that offer actionable insights to advance clinical pathology practices for poorly cohesive gastric cancer.
