Background

The tumor microenvironment (TME) is a complex and dynamic ecosystem, comprising both diverse cellular elements—such as tumor-associated macrophages, cancer stem cells, endothelial cells, fibroblasts, and platelets—and a wide array of acellular components, including soluble proteins, extracellular vesicles, exosomes, mRNA, miRNA, lncRNA, and circulating DNA. Interactions within the TME play crucial roles in regulating tumor progression, angiogenesis, immune evasion, metastasis, chemoresistance, and the response to therapy.



This Research Topic invites original research articles and reviews that advance our understanding of the molecular and cellular mechanisms governing the TME, and how these insights are being translated to clinical applications. We are particularly interested in studies focusing on:



- The characterization and function of cellular and acellular components of the TME

- Novel biomarkers derived from the TME for early diagnosis, prognosis, and therapeutic response

- Advances in liquid biopsy technologies for non-invasive cancer detection and monitoring

- Emerging therapies and therapeutic strategies targeting the TME to improve patient outcomes

- Mechanisms of drug resistance and immune modulation mediated by the TME



We welcome submissions that bridge basic biomedical research and clinical practice, with the goal of accelerating the development of innovative diagnostic and therapeutic approaches in oncology through a deeper understanding of the tumor microenvironment.
