About this Research Topic

Submission deadlines

  1. Manuscript Extension Submission Deadline 30 August 2026

Background

Oral cancer presents significant challenges, requiring comprehensive treatment plans that may include surgical interventions, radiotherapy, and chemotherapy. These treatments, while necessary, often result in challenges with mastication, speech, aesthetics, and overall psychosocial well-being. The complex nature of oral health issues post-treatment mandates innovative oral rehabilitation strategies that restore critical functions and enhance the quality of life for patients affected by oral cancer. Research in this field has been progressively exploring interdisciplinary approaches to address these challenges, yet gaps remain concerning optimal techniques and outcomes.

This Research Topic aims to delve into advanced oral rehabilitation strategies tailored for individuals affected by oral cancers. By scrutinizing prosthetic, surgical, digital, and interdisciplinary approaches, the research seeks to assess the impacts on oral function, aesthetics, patient satisfaction, and overall quality of life. Key questions will be addressed, including which rehabilitation techniques yield the best outcomes and how digital advancements such as CAD/CAM and 3D printing contribute to prosthetic rehabilitation. Additionally, the research will explore biological, technical, and socioeconomic factors that can either hinder or facilitate successful rehabilitation.

To gather further insights into the field of oral rehabilitation for cancer patients, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:
• Prevalence and mechanism of the oral dysfunction in oral cancer survivors
• Evaluation of current and novel rehabilitation techniques following oral cancer treatment
• Role of digital technologies in enhancing prosthetic rehabilitation
• Assessment of patient-centered outcomes to measure rehabilitation success
• Exploration of interdisciplinary and digital workflows for improved efficiency
• Identification of barriers to and facilitators of successful oral rehabilitation

We invite contributions that include articles and studies related to oral cancer treatment outcomes and rehabilitation approaches.
