The practice and study of endodontics is going through a radical change due to new technological advances. This Research Topic “Endodontics 4.0: Integrating Digital Dentistry, and Automation”, seeks to highlight the convergence of innovative developments that are reshaping diagnosis, treatment planning, and clinical execution in endodontics.
The combined use of artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning, augmented reality (AR), CBCT-enhanced diagnostics, and automated instrumentation systems represents a powerful opportunity for a more accurate, predictable, and improved patient outcome. While this is all happening, the use of intraoral scanners, 3D printing, and navigation-assisted endodontics are closing the gap between technology and chairside use.
This Research Topic solicits studies that investigate:
• AI-driven tools for pulp and periapical diagnosis and treatment planning • The impact of CBCT, micro-CT, and digital workflow on case selection and prognosis • Robotics and dynamic navigation in canal preparation and obturation • Digital documentation and big data analytics in endodontic treatment outcomes • Clinical evaluation of smart endodontic motors and automated irrigation systems • Augmented or virtual reality in endodontic training and simulation • Challenges and ethical considerations in implementing digital systems in practice
This Research Topic aims to promote collaboration between engineers, computer scientists and dentistry professionals toward a knowledge base which looks forward to a world of precision-based, digitally-driven endodontics.
The Topic hopes to connect and provide a resource for researchers, clinicians, and educators who are able to leverage the digital revolution in endodontics to its fullest.
