Background

Natural products have long been recognized as a prolific source of bioactive compounds, offering substantial therapeutic promise for managing chronic diseases such as diabetes, cardiovascular disorders, hepatic disorders, nephropathy, cancer, and neurodegenerative conditions. Despite their historical significance, the full translational potential of natural products is yet to be fully realized, as challenges in their comprehensive characterization and mechanistic understanding persist. Current studies increasingly emphasize the pivotal role of chromatographic techniques in elucidating the complex profiles of natural compounds and linking these profiles to biological activities. However, gaps still exist in integrating these advanced methodologies with pharmacological investigations, particularly in chronic disease management.

This Research Topic aims to bridge key knowledge gaps in the characterization and therapeutic application of natural products for chronic diseases. By promoting the integration of advanced chromatographic techniques with molecular and pharmacological investigations, we intend to provide a comprehensive platform for uncovering mechanistic insights and enhancing the rational development of natural product-based interventions. This endeavor will consolidate cutting-edge research methodologies to navigate the complexity of natural products and their impact on chronic disease pathways, ultimately contributing to novel therapeutic discoveries and developments.

To gather further insights into the integration of chromatographic techniques and chronic disease management, we welcome articles addressing, but not limited to, the following themes:

o Application of state-of-the-art chromatographic methodologies for the precise profiling and dereplication of natural product libraries and the discovery of novel drug leads
o Elucidation of in vitro and in vivo activities of phytocompounds using relevant chronic disease models, including correlation with pharmacokinetic parameters and metabolomic signatures
o Recent advancements in chromatographic techniques for natural product research.
o Innovative studies on ADME characteristics of natural derivates alongside their metabolites, utilizing metabolomic platforms
o Mechanistic studies elucidating pathways involved in chronic disease modulation
o Research fusing analytical chemistry, pharmacology, molecular biology, and systems biology to advance translational efforts from natural compound discovery to clinical application.

Submissions are encouraged to explore the themes with emphasis on the comprehensive integration of interdisciplinary approaches to enhance our understanding and usage of natural products in managing chronic diseases.
